JUST START

I had the idea to start a YouTube channel nearing the end of last summer. I am currently writing this on Monday 10th March 2025 and not a single frame has been filmed.

I tend to procrastinate a lot. There was a manager where I worked, years ago, who’s philosophy seemed to be that if you leave a problem long enough, it’ll solve itself or just go away. He just procrastinated himself out of having to make any decisions. It was masterful really. Now this is also the same man that thought it was completely normal to boil an egg in a communal kettle so I’m not saying he should be listened to but we do have something in common…waiting.

I’m not sure exactly what I’m waiting for. It’s definitely not inspiration. I’ve got so much of that. Notes upon notes upon notes of things I want to do, things I want to try, I’m ready to go sort-of. And yet, here I am, not taking the lens cap off my camera and hitting record.

I saw a video by Sawdust and Strings on YouTube earlier today and he said “Just start!” And he’s right. It’s also so much of what I love about the platform – can I relate to a guy who has content making things out of wood? No. Would I watch it? Probably. I’ve watched weirder and more left field things than that in my time and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Maybe it’s watching someone creating something and seeing their joy that’s the pull, the thing they do is sometimes completely immaterial.

Perhaps that means someone might watch my stuff. Who am I to deprive them of some quality content? Nobody!

So it’s time to stop making excuses and just start.

Keep moving!
