I finally did it. Set up my camera. Set up my backdrop. Readied my script. And why is there still no video? Well, all my plans were scuppered by the lack of the correct cable.
I now have the wire but it kind of took the wind out of my sails because I was so close to pressing record and then couldn’t. And now, well now, I’m just making excuses.
The ultimate plan for my channel is to create videos that re-imagine songs/ music videos based on my creative vision. Sounds a little pretentious, right? I don’t know anything about dancing, video directing, editing, performing, costuming, makeup – anything that would make a video good but I want to try.
I used to be obsessed with the idea of being a performer. But being the onscreen talent was never going to be my future. So my dreams drifted more to the back of house. I always loved to write so I did that, I do that from time to time. As I’ve gotten older though, I think I want to push myself a little more. I mean, I only plan on being on screen because I won’t have the budget for actual talent.
I think my biggest hurdle is actually going to be using the music I want to use because those record companies are very territorial. And I understand, they need to keep the reins on all the money so they can pay the artists a reasonable wage.
I’m not bothered about monetisation because that is a very unlikely outcome, I’m not really bothered about views, more like the quality of them. If someone takes the time out to watch what I’ve done and liked it enough to “smash” that like button, then I’ll be happy. Because we made a tiny connection.
And those connections are the start of community. And a community can be gargatuan and unwieldy. Or it can be a small group of like minded people just ready to have a good time. To not take things too seriously. Who want to learn together. Create together. To watch and uplift each other. Sounds lovely?
I don’t think the wrong cable should stop me from finding that because it does indeed sound lovely.
Keep moving!
